Intelligence Led Policing

The Inductive Strategy: Your Questions as an Analyst.

You may recall that in the first post on The Inductive Strategy, you were given data and asked to develop an inference as to what was going on and who was in charge. You were also requested to come up with some questions that you, as an analyst would want answers for.

(For example – You may want to know more information on the meeting in Miami or about the personal finances of Lange).

Okay, here are some questions that have come up for this exercise:

  1. What more information is needed on the criminal record of Williams?
  2. Who are the other criminal associates of Lange?
  3. Who were the organized crime figures that Lange met in Florida?
  4. What were the circumstances that led to the eviction of Johnson from Black Pool Resources?
  5. What are the facts on the speeding ticket? Was there a major crime in the vicinity?
  6. What additional information can the District Attorney provide on IBTWU members misappropriating pension funds from companies they represent?

You may have other questions in addition to these but this will give you an idea of what needs to be answered.

The Outcomes of Your Analysis – Why It Matters.

As an analyst, you have been asked to come up with a hypothesis as to what is going on and what does it mean. No one is going to be arrested at this time and you certainly are not going to Court. Right now there appears to be enough information to begin an investigation into the activities of Lange et al.

Jerry Ratcliffe, Professor at the Department of Criminal Justice, Temple University, Philadelphia, developed the model for Intelligence Led Policing.
